Tenorio Volcano National Park
Located in northern Costa Rica, the Tenorio Volcano National Park is one of the country’s youngest parks. Taking its name from the Tenorio Volcano, this national park boasts stunning river views and plenty of opportunities for wildlife adventures. The park was created in 1995 to protect the Tenorio Volcano, which is still active today. The park features four different life zones as well as the beautiful aqua-hued Rio Celeste.
During a hike through the park, travelers will find a diverse array of flora and fauna, including pumas, tapirs, howler monkeys, squirrels, bromeliads, palms, ferns and much more. Travelers should expect a challenging hike through the forest, but the views are worth the effort.
Llanos Del Cortez Waterfall
One of our absolute favorite spots in the northern Guanacaste region of Costa Rica is the Llanos de Cortez Waterfall. The waterfall is located just a short drive from the Liberia International Airport, it is affordable to visit, and you can swim under it! Llano de Cortés is one of Costa Rica’s most scenic waterfalls, it is about 40 feet tall and 50 feet wide, creating a gorgeous veil of white water streaming over the rocks.
Sloth Sanctuary
Take a tour on a rural organic farm! You will be taken on an inspiring and educational walk, showcasing natural wonders such as tropical plants, flowers, birds, sloths, frogs, snakes, insects and many more animals that inhabit the farm. This tour is designed for those that do not want to hike or walk for a couple of hours but for 1 hour in a very easy walking path, to see fantastic wildlife in its habitat.
Rios Celeste
Rio Celeste is one of the most beautiful places in Costa Rica and understandably, many visitors want to be able to swim in its spectacular blue water. However, swimming in Rio Celeste is strictly prohibited inside the Tenorio Volcano National Park. Rio Celeste weather is hot and humid being the tropical rainforest. Average daytime temperatures are around low to mid 80s F (28 C).
